The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be crafting a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
