Cancellieri Demonstrates Glimpses of Brilliance in Bright Spot for Struggling Lazio

The feeling at Lazio's home ground was decidedly gloomy on Saturday afternoon. The Biancocelesti found themselves behind against Torino, a side that had allowed a total of 10 goals while netting just two in their last five league matches. Ultras from the Curva Nord were wrapping up their ongoing dissent in a continuous dispute with chairman Claudio Lotito.

This Year's Efforts Coming Unstitched?

Had their campaign falling apart, or was there ever a binding element maintaining its structure to start with? The club brought back Maurizio Sarri as manager in the summer transfer window, but then he admitted that the club had not mentioned a ban on new signings they were set to be hit with for financial irregularities. Rumours that his departure was imminent were unfounded, but he stated that Lotito had "swindled" him.

The Biancocelesti appeared equally disorganized in their performances as behind the scenes, overcoming Verona 4-0 and Genoa 3-0 but losing the remaining initial five matches, including the Rome derby. From one game to the next, it's been difficult to determine if they are improving or collapsing.

The Youngster's Unexpected Presence

At least one man remained positive amid the chaos. Matteo Cancellieri wasn't originally meant to be at Lazio this season. He completed the last one with Parma on loan and, during the summer break, Lazio were advocating for him to stay there a while longer. The signing restriction necessitated a reconsideration. The club couldn't risk to weaken their team lacking backup options.

Cancellieri arrived in the first place under Sarri's first spell, back then just 20 years old graduate of Verona's academy. He made 20 matches in the league for Lazio in that campaign, almost all of those coming off the bench. The ex- sporting director, Igli Tare, whose tenure ended after that campaign, subsequently claimed Sarri of "telling everyone Cancellieri was destined for stardom only to bench him consistently."

Discovering His Best Role

Maybe Sarri was continuing to attempt to determine the specific characteristics of Cancellieri's abilities. Billed as a flank player when he joined, Cancellieri nevertheless spent the majority of that term as a struggling deputy to Ciro Immobile at No 9. Across 63 games while playing for Empoli and Parma during recent campaigns, he netted seven goals. Shoehorn
